I’ve been on quite a few first dates in the last year. Being the love optimist, I love the butterfly feeling I get in my stomach about meeting this potential person. But one thing I HATE like HATE, is a boring stiff dinner date. Dinner in my opinion is always a bit too intense for my liking, quite interview-like all whilst you’re trying to avoid getting sweetcorn or spinach in your teeth. Also if you’re not so keen – quite hard to make a run for it!
So here are my top 5 first date places in London:
1) Bounce Ping Pong, Chancery Lane
Bounce is a great place to take a first date, they do AMAZING cocktails (and one very good Aperol Spritz!), you can get access to a ping pong table for £15.50 for 30 mins or £29.50 for 1 hour on peak time (after 6pm), and they do VERY good Italian food, and anyone who knows me know I am a food snob when it comes to eating out at an Italian place. Check out the food menu here. It’s good as it helps to break the initial ice and awkwardness with a drink and by playing, giving you time to think of things to talk about or have a cheeky snog in the pizza booths 😉
2) Swingers, Liverpool St or Bank
Now I know what you’re thinking, ‘swingers? as in a crazy sex party?’ haha no, Swingers, nestled behind the Gherkin, is home to crazy golf in London. I went here at the beginning of the year on a date and thought I had to include this place in this post. You can book in advance or walk-in, costing £13 per round. if you want to book in advance you can do so here: http://swingersldn.com/book-now/ . Again it’s good to break the ice, have a drink whilst you play and have a playful flirt. There’s three food places to choose from, Pizza Pilgrims, Patty & Bun and Hoppers.
3) Nordic Bar, Oxford Street
Hidden in a street behind Oxford street, this Scandinavian bar is good for a mid week date. If you’re a bit of a boozer like me and like to have drinks on a date – this is a fun place to take a date. You can order drinks and traditional Scandinavian food like the swedish meat balls, and have a go on the Shot Wheel! They also have a ping pong table in the back room. AND 2-4-1 Cocktails all night on Monday and Thursdays. Check it out here: www.nordicbar.com
4) All Star Lanes, Various Locations in London
Ahh the classic bowling date. The All Star Bowling Lanes which are dotted all across London are a great date idea. You can goof around with those awful bowling shoes, order some drinks and get some food if you’re still feeling them. Prices start at £6.95 off peak and £9.95 peak times. Find out more here: www.allstarlanes.co.uk
5) Museum Lates, Various Locations in London
This one is for those inner geeks, who like to learn, drink and flirt. There are various museums in London that offer the ‘lates’, some that come to mind are: Sealife, London Zoo, Natural History Museum and the Science Museum. Check them out here: http://bit.ly/2mAoS46
